The KU Diabetes Institute was formed in 2007 as part of the University of Kansas Medical Center’s 10-Year Plan The Time is Now. The mission of the KU Diabetes Institute is to advance research leading toward prevention and control of diabetes, as well as to an eventual cure for the disease.
Researchers and clinicians from the University of Kansas Medical Center (including the Cray Diabetes Self-Management Center), the University of Kansas-Lawrence, and the KU School of Medicine-Wichita form the core of the Institute. The Institute is also the lead institution in the Midwest Diabetes Coalition – a network of regional academic and clinical institutions, as well as a variety of organizations – both government and private – working toward prevention and control of diabetes.
